We were so sorry to hear of Hugh’s passing, he was a pleasure to deal with over the years, a true gentleman. We always admired his handmade Christmas card every year, a very talented artist

Much sadness at the passing of my oldest friend. We met as volunteers with the Red Cross during the war on a particularly quiet night. We spent the whole night talking to each other and remained good friends for the next 75+ years. Will be missed.

Rest in peace Uncle Hugh, the very definition of a gentleman. Kindness and good humour were just so natural to him. Our condolences to Shelia and family. Hugh was my first boss - in Hallidays/Clarks back in 1960, when he managed the No.1 Factory in Quay Street. He was a highly effective and successful manager, though he made it all look easy with his quietly intelligent and deeply human style.
I remember his many kindnesses to me, and I am thankful for the time I spent around him. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
