I'm so sorry to hear about uncle Hugh. He was a lovely uncle and godfather - very funny, with a wicked grin, and very much a family man. Patricia and Aisling, you made him very happy. He was the first person I ever saw wearing a cravat, and smoking a pipe, two things I still associate with him! He will be greatly missed.

I’m so very sorry to hear this sad news. I have wonderful childhood memories of my Uncle Hugh.

I often had sleepovers with my cousin, Ailbhe. Hugh would make us his specialty dinner, which was a volcano - a mound of mashed potato, a hole in the top filled with ketchup and chopped up sausages stuck into the side of the potato mountain!

He also made us brownies from a packet, which I never had at home (my mum is a proud baker and would be horrified!!) and I thought it was a real treat.

He’d also buy Ailbhe and I lots of sugary treats and we’d have a midnight feast, like in the Enid Byron books we loved!! Realistically, this was probably at about 9pm. Unsurprisingly, a good night’s sleep often didn’t follow.

Thank you for these lovely memories, Uncle Hugh. Patricia and Aisling, I’m so sorry for the loss of this special man. My best thoughts and wishes go to all who knew and loved him.
Sincere condolences to all the O’Neill family, may he rest in peace.
