Hugh was one of my lectures in Civil Engineering 1965 to 1969.

I always remembered him as a lovely person who had great enthusiasm for mechanical engineering which he taught us
and I was very fond of him and often thought of him over the years.

His kindness and warmth in my early days in UCC were really appreciated and we really enjoyed his visits to the workshop after his retirement - he was always willing to share his enthusiasm and knowledge. Hugh was Chairman of the Cork Region of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland in 1971/72. He is fondly remembered by his colleagues in the Region and his many former students.
