Martin, there are still no words that make it easier, I was away at the time. I fondly remember the times spent with him, especially the dinner the three of us enjoyed in the Heritage.
Hugh added immeasurable value to so many people’s lives including ours, both professionally and personally.
Sincere sympathy to his extended family and all at Douglas Wallace especially Les.
Hugh’s influence will always remain, design influences but even more importantly his heart influences.
Thinking of you both,
Rest in peace, Hugh 🙏🏻 xx

Sincere condolences to Martin and the extended family and friends on the untimely and very sad death of Hugh. Fond memories of his great voice and expressions on television, very much enjoyed watching and listening to television and radio shows which Hugh was involved. He will be sadly missed. R.I.P.
Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Martin and to all of Hugh's extended family and many friends on the sad and untimely passing of your treasured Hugh.
We thoroughly enjoyed watching Hugh on Home of the Year and the Great House Revival; they became two of our favourite TV programmes. There is no doubt that he helped to make them into the cultural institutions that they are with his entertaining and insightful personality. His passionate determination to restore old and derelict buildings to their former glory will continue to inspire people.
He made the world a happier, brighter and more sparkly place. He enriched everyone's lives immensely, including those of us who never had the pleasure of meeting him.
May he rest in eternal peace and watch over and comfort you all always.

Martin, I just wanted to send you my heartfelt sympathy. Hugh was so admired and loved, and it meant so much to meet him and experience firsthand the same warmth, kindness and genuine character that everyone saw and spoke about. He really was exactly as he seemed - generous, encouraging and full of heart. The tears flew out of my eyes when I heard of his passing, as we had been together a few hours earlier.
I admired his new trainers and clothes, and how handsome he was, he spoke about you and he credited you with helping him stay so beautifully presented; and he talked about your loving relationship - how the years have flown by and that you still had so much to look forward to in your new home - and the stories of your cat had us howling!
Hugh made a lasting impact in a very short time, and I think of him often. His ideas, his belief in others and his kindness live on, I am endlessly grateful to have known him, and for having a home where I can live.
The ceremony was incredibly moving. The music, the stories, captured Hugh so beautifully, and the setting felt so right for such a remarkable man.
Hugh will always be remembered with great fondness. Sending you my sincere condolences and keeping you in my thoughts.

I was so sad to hear of Hugh’s passing. What a wonderful man, full of life and so much fun. I loved him on the TV.
I had the pleasure of meeting Hugh and Martin at a queue for coffee at the Brighter Homes a few years ago and was taken by what a great couple they were. My sincerest sympathy to Martin and all Hugh’s family.

Farewell Hugh, my good friend.
First met Hugh in 1975, as we studied architecture together in Bolton Street.
During college years, we were in and out of each others family homes, comparing project designs and project models.
Summer breaks at their summer house in Rosslare. Lovely parents. Great memories.
My sincere sympathy to Martin.
Shall meet again Hugh, see you down the road.

My young sons and I were all shocked and sad to hear about Hugh’s sudden death. Our deepest condolences to Hugh’s partner family and friends. Thank you to Hugh for inspiring me to be brave and trust myself when renovating our home. Hugh has left a wonderful long lasting legacy. May he rest in peace.
Rather shocked by this news having just returned to Ireland for Christmas. Hugh was a wonderful, generous and interesting man. I will miss him and his stories dearly. RIP.
I'm so sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Hugh. I have just got to know him through watching The Great House Revival. What a lovely, talented man he was. Its such sad news. Sending best wishes to his family xx
Very saddened to hear of Hugh’s passing.
I had the privilege of knowing Hugh many years ago.
I have fond memories of Hugh as a genuinely kind, human centred and understanding sole.
There was a realism and honesty in the way in which Hugh related to others that left a positive, lasting impression on me.
The memory of Hugh’s warmth and generosity remains clear.
To Martin, please accept my heartfelt condolences and may Hugh’s gentle sole rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of the passing of my old boss. I loved his passion. I learnt a lot from him. My fondest memory is hearing a conversation at Douglas & Wallace with a client who had a project coming soon. It originally was £10,000 but became £100,000 and Hugh simply said "It's only a zero". And we got the job in the end! He will be missed. Good luck to Martin and all who were close to Hugh in dealing with this horrible time.
Dearest Martin, my deepest sympathies on the untimely passing of your beloved Hugh. He was a shining star and a natural TV presenter, and someone who had a great respect for our historical architecture, which I too share. The only consolation in the midst of such grief is that he lived life to the full, achieved so much in his time on this earth and clearly loved you. We will all miss his joviality, inimitable optimism and quick wit on our TV screens. May he rest now in eternal peace.
Farewell to my inspirational, fantasy dinner party guest. My Condolences to all who mourn Hugh. Deeply Loved and will always be missed as he is very missable and there's never been anyone like him on our tv ever. He will Rest in Peace. I wish I'd met him.
Sincere sympathy to Martin on the sad & sudden loss of your beloved husband, best friend & soul mate, what an amazing gentleman full of life, may his gentle soul rest in peace, you are in our thought's and prayers always. Rest easy Hugh.

Deepest sympathy Martin on the sudden loss of Hugh💔
He was such a phenonmenal individual who touched the hearts of so many with his sheer brillance.
He may have left us far too soon but his memories will live on forever in the magnificent houses that he has designed and restored.
He will be greatly missed by you and by everyone lucky enough to have simply known him.

Martin, We just wanted to send our deepest sympathies to you. We were huge fans of Hugh long before we met him. It meant so much to us to see him on our screens and then to experience the very same warm, genuine character in person. He truly was exactly the same on and off camera, and we loved that about him.
We think of Hugh every day, our home is what it is because of him, and we are endlessly grateful. Though we only knew him briefly, he made a lasting impact on our family.
We were very moved by the ceremony, the music, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I Did It My Way, captured Hugh so beautifully, and the venue felt so fitting for such an amazing man.
We will continue to remember Hugh with great fondness and send you our heartfelt condolences.

Such an Amazing and inspiring creative man. Such flare and zest for life, and came across as a soulful and caring person. A sad loss. May you rest in peace.
Heartfelt sympathy to Martin and Hugh’s family on his passing. Praying for you at this sad time.
Thank you for all you did for Irish architecture and the joy you brought to so many homes worldwide in your TV showmanship and skill. You will be hugely missed.
Our precious little boy fell in love with Hugh when he first appeared on our screens. He drew a picture of Hugh with angels wings & stuck it on our fridge. He cellotaped a newspaper picture of Hugh on the base of his brother's bunk so that Hugh's face was the first thing he saw every morning when he woke up. Our boy has a life limiting condition which makes us truly value the people who make him happy.Hugh did that without ever knowing. Our son was so shocked & sad to hear the news,as were we & indeed the whole country.Thank you Martin for sharing your beloved with us all.❤️
I never met Hugh Wallace but feel i knew him through his television programmes which i enjoyed immensely.
He always came across as larger than life and so pleasant. He never disparaged the homes he was viewing and was such an advocate of rejuvenating old houses
Sincere sympathies to his husband and family
He will be missed.RIP

Sincere condolences to Martin and all of Hugh’s family and friends. There’s not many that had that touch of magic, tough of flair, bags of humour and warmth that could connect so beautifully with those he was with in person and also with viewers at home. I will genuinely miss all of those qualities that he brought to me via the tv. We’ve lost a gem. RIP Hugh
Heaven gets a make-over like no other.
What a sad, sad loss for Irish telly and many a stylish home graced by Hugh's magnetic presence.
To Martin, Hugh's friends and family, there surely are no words in these sad and hard days. Thoughts to you all. Candles shall be burning gently.
One of Ireland's legends resting peacefully among the stars, in every sense of the word.
Codlagh Sámh, Hugh.

Hugh, as I was walking along Sorrento Road, Dalkey on Tuesday morning, 25th November, I heard 'Hello' from the street outside a building site and didn't need to turn to recognise your distinctive voice. When I did, there you were, in your high vis jacket, about to do what you loved and did so well, oversee another protected structure, in the process of renovation.
Thanks Hugh, for all the joy you brought to viewers like myself on your various TV programmes.
You will be sadly missed.
Rest in Peace

So sad and shocking to hear of Hugh's passing - as I had only met him and Martin less than 48 hours beforehand.

Sending my sincere condolences to Martin and all those loved ones mourning Hugh passing. I only knew Hugh from TV, he always came across as a kind, caring person. He saw the positives in everything and was good at bringing out the best in everyone. We will miss him from our sitting rooms . I can only imagine the loss felt by his nearest and dearest.

Hugh's passing is a profound loss. His dedication, energy, and vision shaped every project we shared, his absence will be deeply felt by many. My heartfelt condolences go out to Martin, his loved ones and colleagues during this sad and difficult time
I'm not one who would sit in front of a TV for long but if Hugh was on I'd be glued to it. He had a magnetic, warm personality that transcended the airwaves. His good humour, happy smile, personal style and positive personality was a joy to watch and lightened many a design disagreement scenario on our screens. You could tell the people he was working with on on the programmes really liked him. He was kind and generous with his knowledge. Though I didn't know him personally, his abrupt passing actually hurt, which came as a surprise to me. I can't believe there will be no new episodes with his beaming face and exhuberant flair to look forward to, what a loss to Ireland and Irish television. I can't imagine what an enormous loss this unique and wonderful person is to those who knew him particularly, of course, his husband and family. I hope you can take some comfort that Hugh spread a lot of joy through his TV work and he leaves a lasting legacy in this and his design work. May he rest in peace and may God bring peace to those who grieve him.
To Martin, sending you my deepest sympathies. Hugh was a treasure to work with, we all loved him so much. And we will miss him so so much. Please know that we will always carry you in our hearts, knowing how much Hugh loved you.
My Deepest Sympathy on the passing of Hugh.A Very good presenter. He would light up any house.

My deepest Sympathy to Martin and families and Hugh’s large circle of friends and admirers on Hugh’s passing .
I would like to concur with the comments by our Cousin John Fletcher ‘s condolences . I was circa 14 years older than Hugh who was a baby when all the Cousins played games at our Granny Cobbe’s home on numerous occasions . We loved to meet Uncle Ken and Aunty Sue and baby Hugh.
Later in life when I lived in Dublin for a short while , I was fortunate to be able to meet Hugh on many occasions , sometimes in Nico’s restaurant on Dame Street which Hugh liked . Many of his Cousins and Hugh on a few occasions met up after Christmas at my Sister Hilary’s for a get together which we all enjoyed . Hugh was a lovely Cousin and great fun to be with and will be greatly missed .
Unfortunately , following Hugh’s funeral service it took the Cobbe family Cousins a number of minutes to reach the exit of St Patrick’s Cathedral following Hugh’s funeral and not in time to Sympathise with you Martin and family on your great loss of Hugh .
Hugh will be greatly missed by Martin and all of his family , and many friends and a vast amount of his T.V. Viewers .

Condolences to Hugh’s Husband Martin, family and friends. Hugh was my born first cousin, only child of Susan Cobbe from Portarlington and Kenneth Wallace from Dublin. Susan was one of my mother’s younger sisters. In earlier years I was well acquainted with and played with Hugh on his regular visits with his parents to our home. His father Ken would invariably refer to Hugh as the ‘Nipper’. Hugh still has cousins in the Portarlington area, the Cobbes, Fletchers, Dignams and Wardrops. Since Susan and Ken died many years ago I have not had any contact but I am aware that Hugh and Martin visited the graves at Lea Church on several occasions. Hugh faced several serious challenges in life and had the foresight and strength to overcome each , resulting in him excelling as an Architect and TV presenter in the construction arena. Hugh, you were a credit to your parents and relatives and you can now rest in peace knowing that you did a good job in life, albeit cut short.
Condolences to Martin and all Hugh's friends. For some who didnt know him personally, he seemed such a lovely person. I loved his positivity, humour, unique way of giving advice and his practical perspectives in reviewing houses.
To Martin so sorry for your loss .. Loved Hugh’s personality on TV .. Loved his shirts too .. RIP Hugh ..❤️
Condolences to Hugh's husband Martin, family and his large circle of friends, on Hugh's untimely passing. RIP. I only knew Hugh from our TV screens. What a huge loss he's going to be.
