Oh I'm shocked & saddened to hear dear Hughie has left us. Close neighbours for 23 years. Marie & Hughie welcomed Bryan & I with open arms. This is heartbreaking to read. Lovely quiet gentleman. I am so sorry to hear this sad news of Hughie's death. May he rest in God's eternal peace.
Hughie was my neighbour in Keadue. We played together in our childhood, Cowboys and Indians in the fields behind the house and then tennis alongside the Bayview.
But most importantly of all as young men we revived our much loved Keadue Band in 1974.
Hughie's important part in seeing the Band march again should never be forgotten.
And, of course, he was such a brilliant musician, flute player, side drum and base drum player in our Band and guitarist and fiddler in the Keynotes, Hootannys and the Virginians, truly one of Donegal's top musicians.
He bought me my first guitar from Waltons in Dublin whose manager, Davy, was a friend of Hughie.
We got our flutes there too when we revived the Band.
I send my sincere sympathies to Marie, Sandra, Paul, Aiden and their families.
A special person has left us.

It was an honour and privilege to play with him and Marie at wedding receptions in the old Sweeneys hotel in the early 1980s and a few others besides., May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.
