Dear Rosaleen,

I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies and condolences. I wish I could have been there with the rest of the family to remember him properly.

Years ago, I recall speaking with my mom about the two of you. I think this was at the time when you were still living in New York. She told me that no matter where the two of you were, whenever he was away from home, or on a business trip, you would always make time to speak with one and other - no matter what. Something about that has always resonated with me, knowing that this deep, inseparable bond can grow each day, regardless of distance or time, and that it's the little things that count in the end, when we look back on a whole life together.

Given my age, and the twists and turns which my journey has taken, I doubt I will ever get to experience that kind of connection, though it is nonetheless intimately inspiring. I pray that even though his body has left this plane, his memory and voice and spirit are still there with you whenever you reminisce about him. And all those wonderful, shared moments are able to keep you company whenever he feels far away.

A lovely man has passed. I enjoyed my time with Hugh and Maurice on the boat in Bantry bay followed by celebrating the couple of mackerel we caught in the Bank House. My condolences to all the family. Hugh will be sadly missed.
