It is very sad to have to say goodbye to Hugo I'm working for the lads now with 20 years or so I remember the first day on site with Hugo and Tony as an apprentice he made sure to get to know you and show you around and
feel at ease over the years we had a lot of good laughs as we worked on many jobs I will miss our chats and all the great advise you gave me thanks so much you will be missed you were a good friend and a gentlemen my condolences to Patricia Emily Rose Tony and all the family

So saddened to hear of Hugo's passing. I had the privilege of being stage manager for two plays he directed for the WDS many years ago, One for the Road and Endgame. I learned so much from him about theatre. His encouragement and generosity of spirit, as well as his amazing talent, made the whole experience a joyous and magical one for all involved. I will forever cherish wonderful memories of that time. Sincere condolences to Patricia, Emily Rose and Hugo's extended family. May he Rest in Peace.

Just heard the very sad news of my old friend and rugby teammate. My deepest condolences to all the family. Hugo was always one of the nicest guys I knew in Waterford and he regularly stayed in touch with me after I left for Australia. RIP old friend.

Shocked to hear of Hugo’s untimely passing. We were great friends in our younger days and endured many a school sports day having him pip me at the post yet again! Hugo was one of a kind; talented, decent, gentle and funny . He was great fun to work with in his various roles in Waterford Dramatic Society, unfailingly generous and courteous on and off stage. I had the joy of working with him on a number of productions, most notably in a Martin McDonagh play which toured to Inishbofin island! He was a multi-faceted, multi- talented character not least in his skill as a builder with his "twin" Tony. I extend my very sincere condolences to Patricia, Emily Rose, Caroline and the extended family and to his legion of friends on his untimely death. He has left the stage but his bright aura remains.

Deepest condolences to Tamayo, Emilyrose,Caroline,Patricia & Heather and his good friend ,Tony, on the very sad death of your beloved Hugo. We have very fond memories of his trip to help build houses in Nyumbani village in Kenya.Hugo was a great worker and shared many building skills with his team members ,He also enjoyed the odd “Tusker” back at the Parkside villa after a long days toil while the women all scrambled off the bus to see if the non existent water had returned! Hugo and the lads smiled as they invariably returned crestfallen but a few jokes from Hugo about the benefit of baby wipes had them back on track again.Many a good story was regaled as they all remained covered in red African dust.

Saddened to hear the news of Hugo's passing. We often met him walking the fields with his beloved dog. Hugo was a wonderful neighbour to us and we will always remember him fondly. Our thoughts are with you all.

I am deeply saddened and shocked by the death of Hugo. I knew him as a tremendously vibrant and luminous presence in Waterford. He was a beloved person whose encounter would always brighten your day. His simple acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, and words of encouragement, were precious to me. May the Irish hills caress you Hugo.

My darling Cuz, You once told me that when the Belfast crew appeared for the summer/Christmas holidays in Tramore that "we joyously super-charged the O'Donovan's" ... Well from our reunion in 2012 to only last week you brought joy to me at some of my saddest times... I wish we had had more time together, but your light will always shine in my heart until we meet again.
