So sorry for your loss, may Ian RIP
Ian, your early departure makes us very very sad indeed.....but it doesn't stop us smiling when we think of you. Every time we met, from hanging about during school holidays or weekends, to the craic in class, walking home after school, days in the pub and more recently the occasions when we bumped into you by chance, we knew we were in for a laugh of some sort.
All of your friends will always remember you with such positive memories of various encounters. Our thoughts are with Freda, Ciarán, Declan and Jane, who are in our thoughts. May you rest in peace!

Dear Declan, my heartfelt condolences to you and the wider Markey family and friends on the untimely passing of Ian. I remember fondly meeting him in New York in the early 2000s — the two of you were like peas in a pod, full of energy and that unmistakable twinkle in the eye. I can’t begin to imagine the pain of such a loss.

Deepest sympathy to all of the Markey family on the tragically sad passing of Ian. The news of his passing is truly shocking. Ian was one of the nicest, friendliest and kindest of people, always ready for a chat. Ill always fondly remember sharing a dressing room and much laughter and slagging with Ian in the mighty "Junior Syls" of the 1990s. Rest in Peace Ian.
I am so sorry to hear of Ian’s passing Freda and family, such a kind and generous man. He was one of those special people who put a smile on your face when he stopped for a chat or just waved, with that big beaming smile, as he drove by. He always made me feel positive and happier for the day. I will plant a tree in his honour and will be glad I knew him for a while. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.
Absolutely heart broken 💔 for all the Markey family & Jane & all Ian's friends. Malahide has lost one of the kindest, funniest, sweetest, souls. Ian could make me belly laugh any time i met him. There are people in life you never ever forget for the way they made you feel. Ian was one of these souls. I hope he knew how much he was loved in Malahide cause he was. RIP funny man. You will never be forgotten because when you met Ian you always left feeling better for knowing him. Niamh Dinnigan.

Ian was such a shiney sparkly person...all you had to do was look at him with his lovely smile and it would put you in a good mood!!!!!!!
And God knows there were times on nights out in Gibneys when my "surly" younger self needed a lift...his good humour was infectious...he'd always stop for a quick hello....and then he was gone as quickly as he arrived......
Such a sad time for all who knew Ian...especially Jane, his family and his great friends..he will live on in your hearts and memories.
He touched so many of our lives with his positivity( and divilment!)
With heartfelt sympathy,
Gena.

So very saddened to hear the news of Ian's passing. When I think of Ian I think of his smile. He was witty and made us laugh on many an occasion. I have fond memories, one being on the no 42 bus coming home from town and when he realized Josie Landy was on board he started singing "Living next door to Josie" Sure he had us singing along and in stitches. Josie was mortified but loved every minute. I can only offer my sincerest condolences to his wife Jane, Ciaran, Declan, his extended family and close friends and especially to his Mam Freda. May Ian Rest in Peace 🖤 Deborah

Ian’s gift of being able to connect with everyone and anyone is by now, well documented. Funny beyond belief, but solid as a rock when it came to the values of family, friendship, loyalty and integrity.
Very few reach a level in their community where ex-girlfriends and old school teachers unite with a village in their admiration and grief for one man!
He owned his diagnosis and he added courage, hope and determination to his list of super powers this past year. This was made possible with the support of Jane who has been his shining light and has been selfless in her loving care for Ian, supported by Freda, Ciarán, Declan and his inner circle of close friends.
Ian’s legacy to me are memories of joy and laughter with a hint of bitterness, for being robbed of another 25+ years of friendship, devilment, laughter and the odd deep conversation.
I am blessed our paths crossed and that we shared part of life’s adventure together. Thanks Ian, Rest in peace.
