Ian was everything you could wish for in a director as I started out as a young BCO on Fair City; so kind, so considered, so full of patience, so full of respect for each and every one of the cast and crew and oh so prepared!
Thank you for the beautiful ceremony, I didn't think my admiration could for him could be any greater but hearing the impact he has had throughout his life is humbling. All my love to Jane, Tamsen and Kirsty.

Sincere condolences to all the McGarry family, so sorry to hear of Ians passing. He was a joy to work with, so talented and treated everyone with respect. He spoke so proudly of his family and I loved hearing all about his wonderfully interesting life. May he rest in peace.
I first came across Ian when I joined RTÉ in 1979. As a lowly VTR operator I was struck by how he got the best out of his crews with good humour and praise. Our paths continued to cross over the years both professionally and on snowy slopes.
When Windmill Lane were handed the unexpected task of televising Nelson Mandela's address to both Houses of the Oireachtas in 1990 I contacted Ian who was once again incredibly generous with his time, expertise and support. It was Ian who directed the coverage that day, despite him saying to me "for fecks sake Ennis, it's Mandela, not light entertainment"! The coverage was almost flawless thanks to him, despite the utter shambles behind the scenes.
Heartfelt condolences to Jane, Kirsty and Tamsen.

My sincere condolences to Jane, Kirsty, Tamsen and extended family on the sad passing of your beloved Ian. He was so proud of you all.
I first got to know Ian on starting work in RTE Light Entertainment in the early 70's where he was a Producer/Director. After a few months having overheard I was off to Austria on a ski holiday with a group of friends he decided to join us. Never having skied before, by the end of the week he was flying down the slopes like the pro that he was later to become. The rest is history.
Later in the early 90's, I returned to RTE after 13 years absence. I have many happy memories of working with Ian on programmes. In studio crews loved working with him and in return he was always very respectful of everybody working on or associated with the programme. He always got the job done in his quiet, efficient and no fuss manner.
May you rest in peace Ian.

To Jane, Kirsty and Tamsen… his girls, our heartfelt condolences on Ian’s passing. This was a man of immense talent behind a kit of drums, on the slopes and in RTÉ making light entertainment shows that were always of the highest calibre.
His quiet dedication and can do approach made him a master at his craft. Being in his company away from the bright lights was a pleasure, quiet moments of friendship. I’ll miss that.

My deepest condolences to Jane and the rest of the family and extended family on the sad news of Ian’s passing. In the entertainment industry we tend to come across all sorts of individuals. Some come into your life and then leave, but others leave an indelible mark, simply by their presence. Ian was an iconic individual in the industry, and the void he left is one that will not be easily filled. But we cherish the wonderful memories. The many hearts he touched on so many levels – whether as a sky instructor, a drummer, or a television director. The void left by Ian is enormous because of his standing in the industry as a true professional, immensely talented, and with absolute integrity. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences.
Tam and family my deepest condolences on the loss of your beautiful dad. Thinking of you all.
Ian was on ski patrol at the Ski Cllub of Ireland in Kilternan when I started beginner lessons in 1978. A few decades later he was my tutor in the ski club instructor refresher course in Kilternan. He was a great teacher. At the annual Ski Club swop-shop the McGarry's stand was the place where we clothed our children with great ski gear. At my place of work, Ian's band played at our Christmas and Summer parties. It is so sad to see such a talented gentleman pass before his time. Condolences to Jane, Tamsen and Kirsty.
To Jane, Kirsty, Tamsen and all the family, my sincere best wishes. I worked with Ian over many years in RTE and again in more recent times. He was always a pleasure to work with - relaxed, in quiet control and trusting those around him to do their best work. Crews loved working with Ian. He always talked about his girls and I know how much he loved you all.

Condolences to all of Ian's family and loved ones.
Ian was a special man. One of the best directors I ever worked with it. And he did it without raising his voice or having a critical word for anyone.
He showed respect for all those he worked with and gained everyone's respect in return.
A true gentleman. He will be greatly missed

Dear Jane, Tam & Kirsty,
Colette and I are devastated to hear of the passing of your beloved Ian. We remember with great fondness the special times we spent together, most particularly around the Turin Olympics. Ian was a Renaissance man - partner, father, grandfather first, but also musician, skier, director, mentor, teacher and gentleman. I will miss his friendship, his wisdom and his company.

So sorry for your loss Jane, Kirsty, Tamsen, extended family, colleagues & friends. I had the great pleasure to know Ian as a latecomer to skiing and ski teaching, such a big part of my life for almost 30 years now; more than half my lifetime in fact. Always an inspiration and one of life's true gentlemen and a very loving and loved husband and father Ian and you'll be dearly missed by so many. Rest in peace friend.
Very sorry to hear of Ian's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him over the years both as a musician and a floor manager. Condolences to his family.
So sorry Jane and Family to hear of your loss. Ian was a trailblazer in Light Entertainment in particular, a quiet unsung hero and a gentleman. Many of us learned so much from him in the process. Maybe it was down to his love of music but as a Director he will always be fondly remembered as “the sound mans friend”. May he rest in peace.
My condolences .RIP Ian .
