Cliona, I am so sorry. I just found out, otherwise I would have gone to the funeral to celebrate his life. Ian always put a smile on my face. He was so loyal and caring to his friends. In recent years I loved watching him loving ‘zig and zag’. What memories ye created for the twins. They were blessed to have him as their dad even though so short.sending ye strength and love to get through this.
Condolences Cliona at this very sad time, my sincere sympathies

Dear Cliona, I was so sorry to hear of Ian's illness and now to learn of his untimely passing. My deepest condolences to you and your children at this very sad time.
Dear Bro,
Although our lives took very different paths as we grew up, we were still very much peas from the same pod. And although I still hate bananas, custard and trifle because they were your favourites; I eventually came to appreciate (and even liked) U2 and Dire Straits, even though I probably never admitted that to you. You were always the straight A student and I struggled to follow in your footsteps academically. I never forgave you getting the last Black Sabbath ticket in 1983, but I still treasure your original Wailers “Light a Fire” album. And as we grew, our politics and motivators were often poles apart: I loved fast motorbikes and you were happy with a horse and cart; I chased sales targets while you “followed the sun south”. But while we differed we always shared three main passions in life from when we were young. Our desire to help others. Our deep-rooted love of music. And our enduring love of Ireland and the Celtic nations. Although we knew the country from childhood, I still remember telling you to go to Ireland, to join the “blow-ins” and I’ll never forget your reaction when we later turned up at Clon on motorbikes: it was dark, I still had my helmet on, but you instinctively knew it was me. But I’m so glad you settled there and put your roots down to start a wonderfully rich life with an amazing family. You will be missed, but fondly remembered by a great many who were lucky enough to know you.
Rest in peace Brother. Mike.

For Ian
We danced on stilts
We danced to funk
We’d juggle and we’d sing
From your little hand written song book
A rebel song you’d bring.
You were a DJ, a family man, a doctor and a clown
When I heard the news you’d died
The world turned upside down!

Ian used to come to Phat Cat’s Youth Circus in Skibb and share his skills with the kids. We planned to direct the circus together if he didn’t get accepted into Cork Uni. But he got accepted ,of course , and moved to Cork for another exciting chapter! The kids often asked after him. Ian was a gentle, kind and fun man with such a generous community spirit. Involved in so many creative things. My deepest condolences go out to Cliona , Zig, Zag, family and close friends. Hatty

I'm so sorry to hear of Ian's passing. I met him first when I was involved in UCC 98.3FM, then later in Cork Community Art Link when he served as a board member. He was such a friendly face and gentle soul and I always enjoyed bumping into him from time to time, when he was so proud talking about his twins. My thoughts are with them and with Clíona. RIP Ian.

Clíona, so sorry for your loss. As a colleague of Ian's at UCC Radio (his show used to come after mine), it was obvious that he brightened any room he walked into. Needless to say his musical taste was great but his warm personality also shone through on air. Deepest sympathies to all the family.
