Very sorry to hear of Ian's tragic passing. I'd encountered him a few times travelling on the Irish rail network over the years and was very saddened to see his face again under these circumstances. Ian was a lovely person and a kind soul. I may not have known him as well as others, but I know that anyone who knew him better than me was lucky to have him in their life. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Breda, Paul,Ian’s extended family and friends on his untimely passing. I first met Ian 37 years ago in the railway station in Waterford we both shared the same interest in railways. We made our first trip to Dublin on July 4th 1990 pretending to our mothers we were in each other’s house and got away with it. Ian joined the railway around 1995 in the catering department a job he loved and worked with some great people during his almost 30 years of service.Over the years we became best friends and continued our travels when time allowed but we remained best friends always staying touch with each other no matter what life threw at us. As we made our final journey today to say good bye to a unique man
a best friend I will miss you more than you could ever imagine. Say hello to Mick and no causing trouble up there I don’t think it’s allowed. Well maybe try convince them the tuna sandwiches are still in date.

Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ian following his tragic passing. I’ve known Ian for nearly 20 years, since his iconic Chunkrail Challenger Railtour, initially as a fellow enthusiast before sitting alongside him in a professional capacity in Inchicore during our Signalling Course in 2019. We kept in regular contact since then and he would often be travelling with the bike on the Dublin to Cork services when I would be driving. A man of great knowledge and wit, he will be sorely missed amongst the transport sector throughout the country. It was a pleasure knowing you Ian, may you rest in eternal peace.

Deepest condolences to Ian's family at this shocking difficult time. I was first introduced to Ian when he got the job in Cork signal cabin. He was a little anxious about working a foreign system compared to what he was used to. The rest as they say is history. From that first phonecall we kept in touch on almost a daily basis. Ian's knowledge of signalling rules and regulations were astounding and on many occasion he steered me right on various issues. Ian will be sorely missed by all.

My sincere condolences to Breda and Philip, to all Ian's extended family, friends and those of us in the railway and bus communities.

Ian was a great friend of mine back in the late 00's. We took many a journey together around Ireland and particularly on the Dublin - Waterford line. Ian was some worker in the catering days, he would regularly do Waterford - Dublin - Galway - Dublin - Waterford. And always with a smile and the ability to up sell a danish pastry or muffin with your tea / coffee.

He loved his job as a train guard, but those days didn't last long. On to signalling in Carrick and then Cork. Ian was always so kind and friendly. We would always reminisce, joke and have a laugh. It was always a pleasure.

Ian ran some great railtours, all on his own bat. The Irish railway community, both staff and enthusiasts have lost a great man in such terrible circumstances. I will always remember Ian. Thank you for all the great times.
Deepest Condolences to Ian's family at this sad time may he rest in peace.
Condolences to all of Ian’s family on your sad loss. Always a familiar sight on the Cork and Limerick roads. You wouldn’t know when and where he would be standing waiting with his bike and phone ready to catch the perfect picture. He will be missed. Rip

Your always has a smile on your face which showed how much you loved the job . Only talking to you recently about the Network Catering and the trolleys and how you might have one stored some where this would say your love for the job was unreal and could not match many ..
