We were saddened to learn of the passing of Ian after his long illness bravely born. Ian, was underage rugby coach with Cill Dara RFC. He was a major influence on young chaps pursuing their interest in rugby, back in the day when the playing fields were at the National Stud. Indeed many of his past rugby students went on to play with Cill Dara RFC, the Defence Forces, and the Gardai. Ian was also a rugby ref and coached Newbridge College Teams. His passion for amateur drama and his commitment to Kildare Drama Festival, for over twenty-nine years, is evident in the messages of condolences coming in about his great work. Ian was part of the committee that brought President McAleese to Kildare to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Kildare Drama Festival. Now in its 64th year, Ian Weir's huge contribution was a positive factor in its success together with others, past and present. Kildare Town has lost a great community person that gave up his time for the benefit of others. His memory will live on through his vast contribution to Rugby and Drama. To Edwina, Fiona, Jason, Mark & sister Rosemary, extended family, and a large circle of friends. We offer our heartfelt condolence at this very sad time for you all. Rest in eternal peace Ian,
— Esther & Jim Brady Newtown
