Sincere sympathy to Norma on the passing of Iggy. Fond memories of a gentle man, may he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to Auntie Norma and the Gavin family on the the demise of their beloved Iggy - may he rest eternally in peace
Rest in Peace our beloved Uncle Iggy. You will be greatly missed.
Iggy was always fun, full of stories, ready to discuss sports, politics and whatever was going on in our lives.
Even though Iggy & Norma have lived in the US for a long time they never lost contact with their families in Ireland.
When Iggy worked for Pan Am they travelled all over the world & visited Ireland often.
Over the years they also hosted us all in Whitestone, NY at various times as we embarked on our own travelling adventures.
They were wonderful hosts, and we all have fond memories of lovely dinners around their table, always accompanied by lively conversation & lots of laughter. And, if we were lucky some fiddle or banjo! Iggy was a very talented musician.
He & his younger brother, Tony, (our Dad) kept up regular Sunday phone calls right up until we lost our Dad unexpectedly in March.
On those calls they replayed many hurling matches – both those played that weekend and those played by each of them over the years.
They were both proficient hurlers in their day.
They also loved to discuss their days growing up in Ballyhard, and there would be lots of raucous laughter on those calls.
We like to think that our lovely Dad and our lovely Uncle are both up there together now continuing their long conversations, enjoying each other’s company and having a great laugh!
We send our love to Aunty Norma and wish we could be there to give you a hug but are with you in spirit across the miles.

Sincere condolences to Norma and the wider Gavin family on the death of Iggy, RIP..
He was ahead of me in St. Jarlath's, Tuam in the 1950s, but I can still remember his playing banjo and fiddle so superbly - taught, I think, by my Headford neighbour, Sr. Fursey. Somehow, I'd forgotten about his prowess on the hurling fields, until I saw it mentioned in previous posts here.
Go ndéanfaidh Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal. Ní imithe uainn atá sé, ach imithe romhainn.

Our sympathies to Norma and all the Gavin family on the death of Ignatius. Lots of memories of all the family (our next door neighbours for many years). Gavins’ house was always open door to neighbours and friends from near and far. Mrs Gavin on the sewing machine, a spare hurley behind the front door for passing players, Jack an expert on many things including making and flying a kite. Rest in peace Ignatius.
Sad to read this. Sympathy to all who mourn Iggy. The end of an era. Very fond memories of his lovely talented parents. RIP.

Sincere sympathy to Norma on the death of Ignatius R.I.P.
I want to offer my sympathy on the death of Ignatius, to his sister-in-law, Eileen, all his nieces and nephews and extended family and all the cousins around the homeplace. I don't remember much about Ignatius, but I heard about his hurling, his music, and his life here in Ireland and later in New York. May his soul rest in peace.
My very deepest sympathy to Norma, and the wider Gavin family. I have so many fond memories of growing up as a neighbour, in Ballyhard, admiring Ignatius’ great skill as a musician, not to mention his wonderful prowess on the hurling field, including representing Galway, at Senior County level — May he now Rest In Peace.
