I met Irene over 20 years ago when I joined NHNN, and was delighted to meet someone else from Donegal. She was always a pleasure to catch up with on The Neuro Rehab Unit. She was a great advocate for her patients and staff alike. I am so sorry to have read of her recent passing and I wish to send condolences to all her family in Glencolmcille.

Irene was hilarious, with a super dry sense of humour
She was phenomenal to work with, at Finchley in my very early days and later at NHNN
She epitomized good nursing - hard working, diligent, smart and with a sense of fun on each
I am sure shift she will be sorely missed by her family and my regards to them all
Irene will be delighted to Rest In Peace, in her home 'the hills of Donegal'

Even though we have not seen each other for many years , when I heard of Irene’s death I realised I still held the energy of her .
Memories of our time together at Finchley rehab came alive in pictures , it was as if I had been transported back in time . Last night she appeared in my dream , perhaps as a final farewell . I will miss her being in this life , making the difference to all those who were fortunate to cross her path . She was a good friend and work buddy . I always wished I could be as tough as her …I admired her feistiness !. She would stand up for what was right and didn’t take any bull from anybody !

I worked with Irene for 12 years , she and I were SEN and upgraded to RGN, from a grey dress to a blue , though I never got to a blue dress , purple trousers and a badge . We would laugh about this , she didn’t care a toss about status . She was dedicated, fearless and supported people who came to us , our community of care , cos that was what it was , to reach their physical capacity. She was amazing at helping people to gain control over their bowels, giving hope when life was miserable and seemingly pointless. Farewell dear friend , thank you for being fabulous. And love to your family XXX

Irene was a stalwart of neurorehabilitation nursing, always sharing her knowledge and striving for excellence in nursing care. She was a loyal and dependable colleague, mixing humour and professionalism with all she came into contact with. Thank you for the very happy memories.

I remember Irene as a fabulous nurse, practical, straightforward and skilled. Patients who were looked after by Irene knew they were experiencing the best care. Very sad to hear this news. Irene was such a kind-hearted nurse - her dedication and patient care was admirable and reached such high standards. She was always acting in the best interest of the patient. I recall her good sense of humour - I can still hear her laugh! I am so sad to hear of Irene's passing. She was a fabulous nurse- so skilled, and such a special person with patients. The care she gave was second to none- she taught me so much about being a professional and along with that was one of the kindest people I had the honour of working with. My thoughts are with her family.
