IRENE LACY

Dear Baker, Max, Manuele , Zoe , Anthony and family,

As you will remember in the late eighties early nineties, we did 12 missions in Ethiopia and Eritrea and later we did a mission in Tanzania when Irene was the Country Director of the World Food Programme. When we came to Addis, Irene would host us as if we were a member of the family and when we would go on mission in the field, she had prepared everything in best way possible. Fortunately her omni present talents were recognized by our employer which led to a remarkable career, which brought her from administrative assistant to Country Director and later- after retirement - to consultant.
At the persoanl level, we enjoyed each others sense of humor and friendship,It has not been too often, that I have found in my work -environment a person , who was so dedicated and well organized. The success of our missions was mainly because of her preparation and excellent relationship with our counterparts.
We kept in touch after we both retired, but her demise came as a great shock, as I realized at that time how she had been part of our life. We are proud, that we have been among her friends.

For you as her husband and children it is a great loss, as she was such a lovely wife and mother. Examplary in all aspects. She and you all will be in our prayers.

We are so terribly sad to hear from Kevin Farrell that your beloved Irene has died and feel so much sorrow with you all. Everyone loved Irene. She was huge fun to be with and a genuinely lovely lady. We wish we could have seen more of her in recent years as we did in our WFP days.
You are in our thoughts and prayers and one day we’ll all be together with Irene.

I am so sad to hear of Irene’s passing, we were friends for 60 years.

Irene was always such fun to be with, we shared great holidays in Rome. We have wonderful memories of her laughter and song.

Irene looks so lovely and radiant in the photo. A lovely person, always full of kindness for everyone. She did important humanitarian work in support of starving Ethiopians and Somalis during those difficult times in the 1980s and 1990s. She is sorely missed.
