So very sad losing another wonderful Aunt who enjoyed life to the full. Ita made everyone she met feel special; she would tear out her heart to help you! She is worth every tear that falls today and indeed every time we think of her in the forthcoming days. Marguerite, you couldn’t have done any more for your Mum; and to bear the loss of Con too so recently, you are an amazing lady. Ita was and will continue to be so very proud of you. Ita was ageless. As a child, she puzzled and fascinated us. She was the adult who spoke to us as peers, not the children we were. Who could forget, in her apartment on Denny Street, with Tom Jones or Vikki Carr playing in the background, how she would rage and roar, laugh and wonder aloud to us, her nieces and nephews, her sisters, her friends, why she had made the decisions she made. Looking back as an adult, it struck me how she never let the dark times stop her from finding the bright. She could be mad at life. But she was also mad FOR life. She traveled a bit, to England, once to the US to see us in NYC, but the world came to her, as a beloved cook and hostess for those looking for a truly Irish B&B experience. She was a fantastic conversationalist, and your fiercest ally if you needed it (as she was to my mother and my father throughout their lives, and her many nieces and nephews). She adored Marguerite, and let it be said, no daughter has been more devoted to a mother. Coming on the heels of Con's passing, I am doubly sad for this loss. The fact is, without Ita, the world is less bright, a lot less lemon-filled (I always associate this sunny color with her). But Ita gave all who knew her so much. Ita wasn't just ageless. She was unforgettable. A legend. And we will tell stories of her and remember how she made us feel for the rest of our lives.
