Ivor,

I hope you are able to keep a good eye on your satellites up there! a core memory I will always have is the Wednesday night dinners with you. You were a fountain of knowledge about, well, everything. Anything going on in the world and you were right on it. I will miss the messages from you about the Christina's whereabouts. It will be my responsibility now to find her on the radar! I always feel that in the last few years, we related to each other in a different way that other people relate to each other. most people think "I have the same outfit", not "I have the same oxygen mask" or "I have the same nebulizer" . I feel this brought us closer. You meant so much to so, so many people. As soon as I am licensed to fly planes without an instructor, my first port of call will be overhead Castle Howard to give you a wave. I promise you, I will not let you down. Thank you for absolutely everything you have done for me and everyone else.
Sincerely,
Ollie.

Well Ivor you would’ve loved what we did. And the music was superb, I know you approve. Crazy cocoa bean sat still and solemn as you passed for the last time, and I swear it was like she knew you were saying goodbye. Sorry for blubbering like a baby, I know you’re poking fun of me for it up there! Thank you for being the father I never had, Ivor. Now you’re no longer just my surrogate father, you’re also my guardian angel. Thank you for everything you did, gave and taught me. Forever in your debt and gratitude. Go rest and breathe, and give Dusty Blue lots of cuddles from me! I promise I’ll make you proud. Give ol’ Napoleon my regards, and anyone else up there you think I might like. Ek x

Dear Susan,

I was saddened and very shocked to hear of Ivor’s passing. My heartfelt sympathy to you and all your family.

Thank you to both yourself and Ivor for the opportunities provided to me while at the firm. My time there definitely prepared me for a career in law and for life in general. Ivor’s maxims have always stayed with me “always look for the error” and “know what you don’t know”. He was at times a hard task master but equally generous, witty and fun. When I told him that I was planning on moving to work in Luxembourg all those years ago, I cannot say he sounded particularly enthusiastic about the prospect but he sent me off with a cheeky smile saying, “even Jesus had to leave his home town”.

I am truly sorry for your loss Susan. Rest in peace Ivor.

My Dear Susan ,

Patrick and I just heard about Ivor’s untimely passing . We are heartbroken for you and your family . When Ivor called me in August 2022 to say the Christina O had moored in Venice we immediately joined you both on board. Your joint kindness and hospitality was unbelievable and he extended this wonderful invitation to all our friends. We had a fabulous day together full of fun and glamour .To hear this news is shattering . He was a beautiful generous soul with such a twinkle in his eye. Always funny … always so kind . We will miss him as he was so unique and special in every way. A brilliant mind with a gigantic heart. We are truly sorry and will never forget him. .

Ivor’s premature death is a shock to us all. I knew him from school days at Terenure College (class of ‘73).Thereafter we met at reunions and the occasional social event. Despite his wonderful success and terrific achievements in life, Ivor was the most unassuming and gentle person who displayed complete humility at all times. He was wonderfully entertaining and very witty company. We knew he was not well when he didn’t make the 50 year reunion. He was missed greatly that night and will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

May he rest in peace

Dear Susan,

It was so unreal visiting Castle Howard this evening to pay my last respects to Ivor and seeing so many old friends in shock at his passing.

To witness the massive void he is leaving behind, following his, far too early departure, from the magical life you have both worked so hard to create, as worthy King & Queen of, what is certainly the most beautiful Castle in Ireland and where it is evident you were both so truly happy.

Ivor packed an awful lot into, too short a life and as can be witnessed from the many lovely tributes left in his memory here, he has left an indelible mark on very many colleagues and friends.

He also managed to rub shoulders with very many celebrities and dignatories while you both sailed the seven seas in the wonderful Cristina 'O, the most famous yacht in the world,? which he had the bravery & foresight to save from near distinction !

Ivor has most certainly left an incredible legacy, through his very many endeavours and success's of which you and your families can be so very proud.

God is in for a real treat, as I don't think Ivor will be resting just yet !

Bon Voyage Ivor !
— David Agar
