I offer my condolences on the sudden and premature death of Peter to Mairéad, Philip, David, Róisín and Eoin at this very difficult time. Peter was a man of tremendous intellect integrity and humour and a marvellous and powerful motivation for my study of all branches of economics during my postgraduate studies at UCD. I read his work in international and industrial economics with great interest and enthusiasm. I was looking forward to seeing him again if and when he returned home from Oxford. His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his extended family and friends at this very difficult time for them.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.
I worked as Dept Administrator at the UCD Dept of Economics with Prof Peter Neary in the early 1990s. All these years later, I can still remember the interview he chaired for that appointment and particularly his very sharp intellect. That same intellect was evident throughout all my time in the Economics Dept. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.
I was a student of his in UCD in the early 80s. He brought economics alive for me and was always a terrific help to students. RIP.
He was a very kind and a very brilliant man: it was a pleasure and a privilege to have known him. Deepest sympathy to his family.
Deeply sorry to hear of Peter's untimely death. We were contemporaries at UCD and Peter's early regression programme helped me run equations on the rudimentary computers then available (c.1971). Our paths subsequently diverged -but crossed again in 2007/08 when I was working at the World Bank and Peter was preparing an IMF Working Paper. A great intellectual light has sadly gone out - but we are all indebted for his legacy
My sincere condolences on J.P.'s passing. His quiet humility was his strength. Always engaging. Loved a chat. May your sorrow and loss be in time replaced by fond and loving memories.

Deepest condolences to Mairéad and family. Peter was a wonderful colleague. His leadership enabled profound changes in UCD Economics. It was leadership by example and his legacy will endure.

Our fond connection with Peter goes back to the 1960s and 1970s: students together in UCD; exploring Europe; Peter was a welcome guest at our wedding and a valued visitor to our home. Peter’s professionalism was only matched by his delightful company.
