Zoe , Douglas and Barry - it was a very sad milestone to learn of your Dads passing - and I’m deeply saddened that I’m away at this time . I had many years of jousting , debating , and jostling with Jack , all of them a pleasure and a privilege. Each of us gaming to establish what the other knew and Jack always charming and skilful in attempting to wrestle out an extra nugget or two of news. Whether or not I was trying to avoid some premature reporting, sometimes loosing , sometimes winning or confirming his insight , I always came away chuckling at his ingenuity , intelligence and ability . His talents were multiple and in a personal capacity he was a great guest and a valued friend . He set THE benchmark for property reporting. I have no doubt that in his family life , he had the same impact. I send you my sincere condolences . May he rest in peace .Aidan

Zoe, Doug, Barry and Eleanor, Herbert, Ken and Joe, I am so sorry to hear of Jacks' passing and even sorrier I cannot be there to say Au Revoir to him as I'm abroad at the moment. Jack was a wonderful friend, brilliant raconteur & had a unique sense of humour. At least the reindeer can rest easy in the Phoenix Park now, as he had a habit of 'bumping' into them on the way home to Navan.

Am so sad to hear of Jack’s death. We worked together for over 40 years on the Irish Times. He was a great colleague on the newsdesk - helpful, knowledgeable, fun and above all professional. Doug, Zoe & Barry, I was so sad to learn of your dear Dad’s death. He spoke of each of you so proudly and so warmly. He was an outstanding Irish Times journalist who drew many readers to the newspaper with his excellent contributions. He held people to account as he needed to but was also a great friend to many that he did hold to account. He was possessed of a great humanity and a rapid wit. Jack was revered and respected in the world of property and did much to uncover stories through many tumultuous times.

So sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He was a great work colleague who always had time for advice that was always sound - he listened and then gave his verdict. My condolences to all his family. Jack was a true gentleman and will be sorely missed.
