Sincere condolences to Claire and all my Foley cousins. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Jack, or Jacki, as my mother used to call him, was a fountain of knowledge on the history of Mayo, as was obvious in his superbly detailed book, "Swinford Spalpeens". He also had done great genealogy research on the Foley family tree and was very generous to share his knowledge. Thank you Jack for all your good work. Rest in Peace.

Despite the passage of time, I still have vivid and fond memories of his classes which were a joy. His enthusiasm for his subject was infectious. I was very saddened to hear this news this morning of the passing of an inspirational teacher from my school days at St. Aidan’s. I have very fond memories of Mr. Foley who helped me very much in achieving the Biology grade which I needed for the university place I was aspiring to. In particular he used his own lunch breaks to help me catch up with some of the course content when I had been out for a week due to a bereavement in my leaving cert year

I remember him as a softly spoken man with a great sense of humour, a gentle manner and a love of teaching his subject area

Very sorry to hear about Mr Foley's passing. He was a gentleman and a scholar. I remember him with great fondness and respect from my school days, and later meeting him out walking around Pollahupple. He was such a nice man, with a quiet spoken wisdom. Rest in Peace.

We played handball together in the South Ulster League in the early 80s for St Mellans Handball Club ( Truagh) Co Monaghan , we used the handball court in St Aidens comprehensive school for our home matches.
