So sorry to learn of Jackie's passing. I have very happy memories of playing golf with Jackie in the early days of the RTE Golf Society. Jackie was like a father figure to me, if at times a volatile one, when things weren't going well on the golf course. One incident remains with me. We were covering the Irish Open in Little Island. Neil Coles was leading and had a putt from eight feet on the hole I was covering as cameraman. A technician was trying to identify a fault on my camera and was communicating in a rather loud voice over talk-back. It was clearly upsetting Neil Coles, who went on to three putt. Well, Jackie tore into me. I tried to explain it was the techy, not me. Jackie's response was, it was your fault, you play golf,he doesn't.... and of course he was right.
My deep sympathy to Jackie's family and especially to my old school pal, his brother Terry.
