I have fond memories in my teenage years when we used to call over to Gus in Killowen. He would always play us country music and all of the latest hits on the record player. I remember Gus and his family showing us their large collection of trophies and rosettes from their prize winning horses.

My Deepest Sympathy to all the Long family. I was very sad to hear of his passing. He was one of Life's true Gentlemen. For the past 12 years I met Gus most days while out walking my little dog. We had great chats over the years. Gus often gave me great life advice. He adored his children and was so very proud of them. He gave me regular updates on how well they were doing in life. Gus had a great interest in G A A but his main interest was horses and went to shows all over Ireland .He was on the judges panel of the Irish Shows and judged at shown in many different parts of the country .He was a very active member of Bandon show Society and took pride in what he did
He has been a life long friend and always kept close contact with his locality

Sincere condolences to the Long Family on the passing of Gus. You will all miss him dearly and the wealth of knowledge he always brought with him. Many a year Gus made his biannual trips to visit my father. I vividly remember the ashtray on the table, the box of John Player and always a box of matches. Through the clouds of smoke in the kitchen, RDS classes were relived, the foal to watch for the new showing season identified and the new sire sensation highlighted. Gus chose to go to his eternal rest during the week of one of the biggest sales at Goffs - a fitting send-off for this gifted horseman.
