Very sorry to hear this. Chatted to him when he visited to Ireland. A very interesting man, great character, full of life. He typified all those who emigrated to the UK way back in the old days, and who mostly visited home annually. Those connections are quickly disappearing now. Until the next time Brendan! Brendan and l first met at St. Patrick's College in 1961. He a 5yr and i a 1st year student.
Recently by accident our path's crossed once again through Facebook. He promised that on his next Irish visit he would call to Charley Farrelly's Bar.
Well one busy Saturday night the double doors swung open as a bearded man struggled to make entry supported with two sticks. It was like a scene from' The Playboy Of The Western World'.
There was a curious silence as customers awaited my next move.
'Is it Brendan 'l said and a mischievous smile came to his face. The years had taken their told on both of us.
As the level of noise from the bar banter was restored, Brendan captured his audience with the highs and lows of an amazing life that would make a great film script.
Well now sadly Brendan has scripted his final scene and we all extend our sympathy to all his family and friends of whom he was most proud.
May you now enjoy your deserved rest Brendan and thanks for those shared memories.
