My condolences to James' family and friends. I always loved chatting to James when I visited Dunfanaghy - he always had time for a laugh and a story. He will be missed dearly.
My deepest sympathy to you Mary and all the family on the death of your dear brother James.

May he rest in peace.
We are sad to hear of Jimmy’s passing. He was the Dunfanaghy member who many of us in Athy Golf Club got to know best following the twinning of our clubs in 2006. We will miss his welcome when we visit his beloved club. Our sympathies to his family & friends.
His presence was something that most people could not comprehend he was a GEM on earth - unsurpassed in almost every way. A perfect gentleman- I pray and wish his family the comfort they need at this awful time.

I met him when I was 10 years old when the clubhouse at Dunfanaghy was a corrugated toilet hut -a punt a round!!

I remember his smile- and he knew back then what it would become- The club grew and became what it is because of James Brogan. His tremendous hard work- his devotion to the curves and how the grass would grow are all still present. He even knew the crows by name and they would often land and follow him around- he was a special gift from God. I remember playing with Rodger and James and this crow kept following us- the crow knew his shot landed straight up the middle and sat happily and patiently waiting for a legend to arrive.

The club should create a fund to remember the work he did and create a statue of him outside. I remember he came to Scotland and he played Troon with Kieth and Ronan. I asked him for his 7 iron at the postage stamp and nearly sunk the shot. A birdie did -but I never touched his club again. I hope James and my father are together again a lifetime of friendship and playing golf all day

Hello James….Brendan Here…
I am so sad & so happy for u because everybody waiting are going to be saying …Brogan is coming….what a treat for them.
I could tell you a million stories about James but that would take so long. So only one……..When I was 10 years old we moved house and I seen a golf course across the road.. so I found a Hurl and God knows how anyone could find a hurl in Donegal. So off to golf I went 52 years ago. On the 3rd hole I see a 4 some coming up 13 and its James….he comes over to me and says what are you doing Brendan with a Hurl? I said I’m golfing…..He said meet u at the club house tomorrow 4:30 and he did cut down a driver, wedge, and putter and said…Now you can golf.
