Sincere sympathy to Carol and all the Cullinan family on the untimely passing of James. He was a remarkable fiddle player, whose style reminded me of Joe Ryan—another of Clare’s great fiddlers. I recall him giving a stunning performance in Dublin with Kevin Crawford and Mick Conneely in 2007.Despite his talent, James was modest and humble about his musical ability. He will also be remembered as a gentle, good-natured family man.

We met in Monaghan at the Feile Oriel in 2023 and felt we made life friends. We’re sorry that we didn’t know in time to have made James’ funeral. He will be on our thoughts and prayers.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Chef James Cullinan, a cherished member of the Shannon College family.
Many of you will fondly remember Chef Cullinan from the 1990s, where, alongside Chef Michael Vaughan, he brought immense talent, dedication, and a deep sense of care to the students he mentored in our kitchens. Known for his quiet nature, extraordinary patience, and remarkable skills, Chef Cullinan’s influence extended far beyond culinary instruction—he nurtured and inspired countless students, leaving an indelible mark on our community.
James’s humility, kindness, and unwavering commitment to excellence made him not only an exceptional chef but also a gifted musician, family man, and role model. He was a true gentleman whose legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to learn from and work alongside him.
We mourn this great loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to James’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find solace in the outpouring of love and gratitude from the Shannon community.
