There are only a few people in life that one meets that can be described as inspirational but James Donovan was one of them. I had the privilege of meeting him on many occasions. To see him work with resolve and unquestionable integrity in spite of the unremitting pain he suffered, as a consequence of his work which ensured that hardened criminals faced justice, was an example to all. I never met Dr Donovan but admired his courage and perseverence. He was undeterred by what done to him by thugs and went on to help protect decent people from criminals for 20 more years. He was the epitome of a great public servant. May God rest his soul and give strength to his wife family and friends.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Jim’s passing. I remember him fondly from our Toastmasters days. He was a brilliant speaker, incredibly witty, and always lit up the room. Both my late husband, Frank, and I held him in the highest regard. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Many have used words like integrity, dedication, courage and sacrifice to describe the late Dr James Donovan. He had all of those qualities, and many more besides. He, and his wife Mary, paid an enormous personal price, over the past forty three years, which they always bore with great dignity.
