My heartfelt sympathy to everyone at this very sad time.

On his first day as manager of the Access team in Dublin James was wearing a nicely tailored 3-piece suit and I remember telling him that anyone seen wearing a suit at Microsoft was either in HR or somebody’s dad. A year or two later he was in Seattle on business and wanted to attend a wedding (Stefania Crisci’s) but he hadn’t thought to bring a suit. I told him not to worry, that this was Seattle, where people go to weddings in shorts and flip-flops. But Stefania is Italian, as were most of her invited guests, and, with the exception of James and I, all were stunningly well-dressed. Despite my insensitive and bone-headed fashion advice, James was a kind and generous mentor, advocate, and friend, and I’m very sad to hear of his untimely death.

My deepest sympathy goes out for all who knew and loved him.
