I joined the staff in the Morning Star N. S in July 1967.
Jim was very pleasant and helpful to a me as a newcomer and passed on advice and suggestions.
Even though I left the school in 1972, Jim's memory and good humour has remained with me ever since.

My deepest condolences to the Finucane family. Mr Finucane taught me in 4th, 5th & 6th class in the late 70’s early 80’s and they say that you’ll always remember the great teachers in your life and he was a really great teacher. You should all be very proud of his legacy. May he rest in peace.

Back in the late 70s Mr Finucane called into our class for 30 minutes twice a week to teach us history.
He made the subject interesting and gave me a love of history that I still have to this day.
The 70s/80s in primary schools was a tough time for pupils, some teachers were brutal, harsh and quick to give a slap. Not Mr Finucane. He always treated us kids with respect when others didn’t.
Every teacher had a nickname. His was Alfie. I’m not sure why but we used it as a term of affection as he was well liked.
He cycled to school along Connolly Road every morning & home every evening with his bag strapped over the crossbar. You could set your watch by him.

RIP Mr Finucane. A life well lived.
