I have some fond memories of talking soccer and Man Utd with James over the years. He had such knowledge and as a young boy listening to him, his opinion and thoughts on soccer carried weight for me.

Dear Juanita and Family, My deepest condolences to you all.
I knew James in school in Monkstown and college at UCD, where we played soccer and rugby together for many happy years. Soccer was always our preference, and I remember us both being dropped form the JCT for arriving late to a match, because we had been playing a soccer match at Dunedin Park. We used to practice free kicks and penalties for hours in UCD, needless to say James had the more powerful shot.
We did mitch off school on 2 occasions that I can remember to go to the cinema, the first time to see "Dawn of the Dead" and the 2nd time to see "Alien". I think we were both marked for life afterwards, but in different ways.
I feel honoured to have known James and to have soo many happy memories of him, which after some 40 years are still very fresh.
May he rest in Peace.

I had the pleasure of being in school with James and have very fond memories of him from then. He was always full of fun and a lovely positive guy to be around. When I think of him from then the image that comes to mind is always of him with a slight smile much as he is depicted in the picture accompanying this notice.

When I was involved in setting up the MA in Film and Television Studies in DCU in the early 1990s, no one was more supportive and obliging in supporting the course than James. As busy as he was, he always made his way across town to the campus to share his knowledge and insights with students - alert not just to the industry but to the cultural resonances of film in Ireland. Students would talk about his visits for long afterwards, and still do. His acute eye for scripts and bringing them to the screen made landmark contributions to Irish film over several decades. His loss will be deeply felt and my sympathies go out to his family and friends.

An incredible man, intelligent, creative, fun, witty and every time I see an Arsenal game, or manage to get the score here, think to myself "well, James will be disgusted at that score", or, "he and Alex must be doing the Happy Dance with that result". A brilliant mind, a man who loved what he did and was proud of his work. He was the proudest of all of his beautiful family and lit up every time that we spoke about you. He was so proud of your creativity, and the love he had for you was so clear to see. Brian and I are very sorry not to be there with you due to being stuck with work. We will be watching Jame's service and sending every bit of love and strong energy to you. James has touched so many people's lives, including us, and has made a deep impact on so many in this World. His work, and the support you all gave him, has made a huge difference and brought creativity and joy to a world that badly needs it.
