Jim was a self made man with a great passion for racing. There were certainly no airs and graces about him and he didn’t suffer fools gladly. Jim championed the cause of the smaller owner in Irish racing and sought transparency in all matters relating to the Owners representative body. His track record speaks for itself. There is little doubt that Jim was the catalyst in so many of the later changes and revelations in the sport. A bright spark of genius has been extinguished.

James was always generous with his time, expertise and experience. He made a substantial contribution to many and varied parts of Irish society, including the development of the Grangegorman campus.

Very sorry to hear the sad news. James was one of the real characters of Irish racing and loved the sport with a genuine passion. He worked hard to represent the best interests of the smaller-scale owners and trainers, and no one could doubt his commitment and sincerity. I always enjoyed talking to him, whether professionally or on a personal level. I will miss our chats on the phone and the frequent WhatsApp messages.
