James Herbert (Herbie) Brennan

I’ve been fond of Herbie’s warm smile and of the witty spark in his eyes since the very first time I met him in 1996. I always felt welcome in his presence: he had the rare ability to put people at ease by engaging them with wonderful stories and clever conversation.
I wish I had the chance to spend more time with Herbie, and for my daughter to have known him.
I will miss his presence on this Earth for evermore.

All my memories are of great food and long conversations. Not being able to call down any more was my only regret leaving Ireland. Then again it was Herbie who convinced me to go freelance in the first place and break away from the 9 to 5.

I worked with Herbie back in the 70's in the advertising business and always enjoyed his company as a workmate and socially. Lost contact over the years but have many memories of those days. To his family I offer my condolence and sympathy at this time.

Sincere condolences to the wife and family. Although living quite close to Herbie we both only met when we commenced work together in Morton Newspapers 60 years ago, me in advertising and him as a junior reporter. He was a great ‘character’... always with a smile on his face and the distinctive sound of his famous laugh still rings in my ears. We lost touch for almost 50 years but, through social media, we rekindled all the great times we enjoyed in the Newspaper world. I’m glad to have had the pleasure of his ‘company’ where, this past few years over the ‘Net, he recalled those great early days.

One of my early mentors in the Western Mysteries, or Sacred Science as he preferred to call it, has passed away.

I met Herbie in the '90s and I fondly remember our shenanigans of telepathic battles in Kim Langridge's garden chapel, as well as his beautiful Arthurian Ritual on the divine feminine. Not to mention the infamous invisibility ritual at Runnings Park that now have perhaps become more of a legend than accurately remembered. More impressive though was his time travel experiments with Dolores Aschcroft-Nowicki. Good times.

It's been a few years since we last corresponded when he helped me out with one of the techniques he had developed. Great sense of humor, sincere, and always helpful. He surely will be missed.

I never had the chance to meet Mr Brennan in person. But the Grailquest series he wrote in the eighties had a huge impact on me as a young teenager, and still today. I learned the news of his passing with a pinch to the heart. My condolences to the family.

We have had the privilege of knowing Herbie for fifty years from Egypt to Dingle and back and were delighted when he brought Jacquie into our lives. We also had the privilege of meeting Sian on many occasions over those years. Our hearts goes out to you Jacquie, Sian and Aynia at this time of your great loss. To paraphrase " when we die and go to heaven and there is no Herbie there then we want to go where he went"

I'm so sorry Sian, Aynia, and Jacquie. Herbie helped me grow up with a love for a bigger, more interesting, and more fun world. I feel very lucky to have had him in my life. I will forever be grateful for the genuine warmth, caring, and kindness that I felt when he would welcome me with a big hug and a "dear boy" and will miss him. He was a very rare and lovely human being.

Sian and Aynia, I am heartbroken for you at the passing of your dad. I know how much you both meant to him
and he to you. I'm sure there are many people who will wish they had known in time so that they could have attended the funeral service.
