I have had the privilege of having him as a friend for the past 50 years, and as the years passed he became a close confidante and mentor in my personal life, which I greatly valued.

I will miss our old golf fourball trips away, and in latter years the great regular Jameson and Beamish debates in the South County Bar on matters of religion, rugby, geopolitical landscapes, and of course Irish and European history....on which he had no equal.

To Tiernach and Mandy, in a case of “small world”, Colman had the privilege of living with Jim in Beaumont RC in recent months, having moved there not long after being widowed. They often chatted to each other. We have very fond memories of living next door to the Kerrs in the 1980s. Wishing you and family well at this sad time.

My dad and Jimmy—whom he fondly called JJ or Blondie—go back a long way. They played football together in Clones, County Monaghan, in the 1950s, and reconnected years later when both had settled in Cork. Over the years, they shared many good times, often enjoying a pint together in the Briar Rose.

My dad had great respect and affection for Jimmy Farrell. He was a true gentleman, and we pray that God will grant him eternal rest.
