It is with great sadness that I read of Jim’s death
I have known Jim for more than 40 years, since my time as Honorary Treasurer of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society.
I always enjoyed Jim’s company at Society formal and informal gatherings. He was a fine amateur, professional and a true member of the IRTS and the amateur radio movement.
I shall miss my social contact with Jim. May the good Lord grant him eternal rest.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Jim's passing. My condolences go to his family. I had the honour of meeting him and his father, Charles, in Dublin in 2023. It was the fortuitous result of connecting through genealogy to find our connection to the 5 Smith brothers from the late 1800s. Jim was a wonderful source of information and I will be forever grateful to him for his time and effort helping connect me with past and present family members. I will remember him as a kind, thoughtful and intelligent man, and I am only sorry that I did not know him more or for longer.
My condolences on your sudden loss of Jim, who was a really nice guy.
Jim was one of the first people I met when joining ESB in 1980, and we crossed paths many times during our careers, and Jim was always cheerful and helpful.
I met Jim again maybe a year or so ago and he was in great form and enjoying retirement.
Jim will be missed!

So shocked and sad to hear of Jims passing yesterday. We always had great fun at the Irish Computer Fellows Lunch and some lovely chats in the past couple of years about genealogy. Jim was a brilliant character who was generous with knowledge and stories. He'll be missed. My sincere sympathy to his wife, children and extended family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

I was shocked to learn of Jim’s sudden passing. He was a valued colleague in ESB for many years. We also shared a common interest in the Amateur Radio hobby in which he was highly regarded. Condolences and deepest sympathy to his family.
Evelyn, Jenni and Alan, our deepest condolences on your terrible loss. Jim was such fun and always full of chat. I hope that your wonderful memories of great times with him will comfort you at this difficult time.
I was very sorry to hear that Jim had passed away. I had not seen much of him in recent years, but he and I undertook an eventful four week road trip in the USA in 1984, couch-surfing with multiple friends, driving through Death Valley on to the Grand Canyon, and beyond. Incredible memories and a wonderful guy to travel with. Rest in Peace, Jim.

Dearest Evelyn, Jenni and Alan,
Terrible shock and great loss. All too soon. A man with so much to give and so much living to do. Modest, warm, genuine and always enquiring and interested. Loved to catch-up, and his sincerity in asking “how’s life”. The heart of Greystones and much more !

I was sad to hear of Jim passing.
We worked together for a few years in ESB and I always enjoyed his company, in work and socially.
In recent years we only got to chat when our paths crossed in Greystones.
But Jim always made time to have a quick catchup on the latest work news.
He was one of life’s unique characters and will be sadly missed.
My thoughts go with Evelyn and all Jim's family

I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Jim's passing. He was an amazing uncle to me and my sister, and I greatly enjoyed seeing him when we did get to fly over to see family. I still remember how excited he was by the smoothness of the rotation on a fidget spinner I showed him once as a teenager, and how he appreciated the design and engineering details in so many things other people would overlook. He will very much be missed, even an ocean away.
Evelyn, I am so shocked and sorry to learn about Jim. A friendly , nice man who was so lively and interesting . Irene
