To the Culliton Family. I was very sorry indeed to learn of the death of your father Jim, RIP. He and I were good friends for many years. I appointed him Chairman of the body which recommended changes in industrial development. He was very successful in that task. Those who served with him on that Committee all spoke very highly of him and of his Chairmanship. He led CRH for quite a number of years with great success and built it up into one of the largest and most successful companies in Ireland. I am very grateful for what he did for this country. Such a lovely man and such a lovely nature. I will fondly remember all of the times we met and chats we had over the years. May you all in your huge loss cherish the memories of Jim.

I had the privilege to be asked by Jim to work with the Industrial Policy Review Group in 1992 to commission the research underlying their report and to write and edit the report with him in consultation with the Group which he chaired with great skill. Jim gained the highest respect of everyone who knew him and worked with him . He was a loyal friend and a gentleman in the very best sense - a generous and modest man who touched the lives of many for the better.
