My deepest sympathy to all the family.Jim was a true gentleman, gracious and kind. His dedication to Cork Deaf Enterprises will always be remembered.May his gentle soul rest in Peace
Jim was our last living relative of the previous generation, God rest his soul. . He was married to our father's sister. Uncle Jim could fix anything and kept everything going. Our father like us was all thumbs. My mother Peg had a very strong relationship with Jim who she admired very much. Cork was a different world for us Dubs and we were always much loved by grandparents up in old Youghal Road. St lukes to us was magical. Hencheys was the big house at the back of no. 10 and my father and Maur were born in the lodge. All gone now. But our memories are deeply engraved in our consciousness. Jim and Maur spent part of their honeymoon in Coolock visiting Ed and Peg. Ed was more than a brother., he was Maurs old friend, they always could depend on each other. Jim and Peg discovered that they could too.
The warmth in O' Mahonys Tce. for the visitors ( cousins from Dublin) was all chat sandwiches and tea. Deep conversations, my father's laughter and smart summaries from Maur and more laughter mostly went over my head as a child. I knew it was real and Peg and Jim were working things out as we all played as the grown ups solved the problems of the world. Jim was a great man. He was strong on all fronts and despite his accent he never forgot he was a Dub too.! Our deepest condolences.
Frank. so sad to hear of JIms Passing

Dear Orla, Fiona and Colette

I am so sorry.

I met your lovely Dad only a few times but the memories are very clear. He was obviously very used to welcoming your friends to Mahoney's Avenue and indeed he made me feel warmly welcome. I remember being struck listening to him speak about his work with Cork's Deaf community and thinking how wonderful it must have been for you to have grown up in a house where fairness and inclusion and social justice were a regular part of conversation and were values that your father lived by.

He also seemed to be a man who was an ideal father for girls, he was clearly proud and encouraging of you and was genuinely interested in what you were doing and who your friends were.

He was lovely man.
I hope that your countless fond memories of him will be some solace in the immediate time ahead.

I am very sorry for your loss.
Much love, Ka O'Donnell
