Condolences to Jim's family and all the Hegartys in crowhill. He was a real gentleman and a great conversationalist. I knew him through toastmasters and he was a classmate of my uncle fr john.
I and my brother were taught by Jim some 50 years ago. He had a most deliberate manner in everything he did. He got to know you by his intention to understand you and the rest of the class in his own terms. I remember being frightened into learning a significant amount of Irish poetry overnight by him, but his way was to treat everyone in the school as part of a family. You were never unaware that his intentions were decent and kind and often humorous. My son, Paddy, had him as a teacher more recently and initially said he hated him, and that Jim was always going on at him about his father and uncle before him. I asked him what he thought of Jim when he left Glenstal, he said he thought Jim was fantastic, a Legend!. Rest in peace Jim, thanks for your help and decency and for including us in your wider family. My sincere sympathy to Therese and the whole family.
