Jim was my Unit Commander in the 9th.Inf.Bn.FCA. and we both also served with the No 8 Region Civil Defence in Kilkenny.
We had many happy adventures in the Isle of Man as part of an official twinning arrangement between the Kilkenny and Manx Civil Defence Volunteers in 1989.
Jim is fondly remembered by the many volunteers in Kilkenny and the Isle of Man and they also extend their condolences to the McNamara family.

To all the McNamara family, I would like to express my condolences on the recent death of Jim. I served with him in McDonagh Barracks in the late 1980s and he was such a pleasant and inspiring man. He was a true mentor and his sense of humour was second to none. May he rest in peace.

We served together in the GT Depot, 3rd Inf Battalion, the 8th Inf Group in Cyprus 1967 and with UNTSO in 1974/5. Jim was a fine officer and an excellent sportsman. He has fought the good fight, his service is done and his eternal rest has been well earned. May his gentle soul now RIP.
