My sincere sympathy to Mary and the Sadlier family in their sad loss. Jim and I were class mates in the Marine Radio School back in 1957 and he and I were among the original six graduates as Marine Radio Officers in 1958. I met him subsequently when I chaired the Committee on Juvenile Vandalism for Limerick Corporation and Jim became a nember of the Committee abd contributed value to its report. It has been quite a few years since last I met him as he cycled up O'Connell Street from RTE, but I have thought of him always, with kindness, as a colleague and friend.
The holy sacrifice of the mass will be offered for the repose of Jim's soul in the church of San Lorenzo, Palmanova on next Sunday morning 28th January.

A gentleman to his fingertips and a decent , hardworking , ever obliging man who I had the pleasure of working with in RTÉ Studios Limerick. He had the very best qualities in a colleague and was always striving to make the work better, the story sharper, the meaning clearer. I know how much he loved his family and the jewel in his life Mary and remember fondly how his face lit up whenever he spoke of them. He is in heaven tonight and deservedly so . God knows with late breaking stories and last minute changes we tested his patience and equanimity more than once.

I knew Jim (vaguely) towards the end of his career in the RTÉ Regional setup (I work for Lyric). I always found him to be a wise tonic: wise well beyond his experiences, and a tonic to wake me out of any stupor. The description of "gentleman" gets thrown around a lot these days, but in Jim's case he really was a gentleman. One of the very greatest spirits one would ever meet -All the best Jim. Bernard
