My condolences to you Jim's family on his passing. As a new rotator in the Aer Rianta (Artist now known as DAA) Airport Police Fire Service, I first met Jim when on swing shift (Jim was on "C" crew and I on "D" crew, something he never held against me :) ), he was a permanent "and senior Man" and guided me through the resetting of the fire alarm test test panel located in the breakroom of the old fire station beside hanger one.
Little did I know then, that fast forward 20 odd years he would be teaching me again, this time as his apprentice in the Fire Prevention section of the Airport Police Fire Service, back in the Old Fire Station.
What an honor and privilege that was for me. Jim was a fountain of knowledge and experience regarding the Airport and the duties in Fire Prevention, which were many and challenging. A man of great patience and understanding he would quietly and meticulously go about his work with pride and ever enjoying the crack and a good laugh.
He regaled me with stories of working on farms in winter with cattle, machinery and crops and how difficult it was before the days of health and safety and protective clothing. He would speak with immense pride and love about this family.
Am proud and feel hugely lucky to have known and worked with Jim, your husband, father, grandfather.
I hope Jim is with his ancestors, with his old buddies especially Denis Ryan.
Ray as in Cranley as in "D" Crew and "Jim's proud and grateful apprentice"
