James (Jimmy) Campbell

Very sad to hear of Jimmy's passing. I will always remember him for making me feel safe as a young girl in the 80s as I legged it off his coach and up my lane in the dark on Burrow Road. He never left the end of the lane until I made it to the gate. A good man.

To Veronica and all the Campbell family. I was very sorry to hear of Jimmy’s death and also sorry to have missed the opportunity of attending his funeral and meeting with the family. Danny will be aware that I had dealings with Jimmy over a long number of years and we got on so well . He was a character and always had the best interests of his family as his main concern. He was a most honourable man who always lived up to his word. I really liked him. May he Rest In Peace.

Veronica & Family, so sorry to hear of the sad passing of Jimmy. Dad (Peadar) drove coaches for Fingal Coaches for many years. We spent many of our childhood years over in the old yard in Corballis and after in the Co-op in Blakes Cross...Jimmy was a gentleman...a real family man...a proud Scot. Our da, Peadar, drove with Jimmy for many years and I have great memories growing up of going with him to the yard when he was collecting or dropping the coach back where I would be playing around the yard or on the coaches while they were in the office drinking tea and chatting. Jimmy was always kind to me. May he rest in peace.

To Veronica and all the family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Jimmy. He was such a great friend to us all here in CASA for many, many years. Jimmy was always our go-to for all our holiday centres, breaks and trips, Jimmy was on them all. Everywhere we went, Jimmy was with us. He had great time for all our members and they loved him, always having a laugh and a joke with everyone. Everyone knew Jimmy and he knew everyone there. He also made a great Santa, he wore the suit so well. He made everyone's day when he arrived as Santa at our Christmas Socials with presents and stayed to meet and chat with everyone. He was so organised, loyal and dependable and it was fantastic to have his help and support all these years. We have great memories of the time Jimmy spent with us here in CASA and we will miss him. May all the memories you have and share as a family too help you through these sad days and in the days to come. Rest in peace.

Dear Veronica and family. Sincere condolences on the sad passing of Jimmy. He was a true friend to us all in CASA. Jimmy was professional, caring, totally reliable and a gentleman. He had a great sense of humour and patience too! He was a perfect match for driving for us in CASA. Some members loved driving in the front seat beside Jimmy - it was one of the highlights of their respite break. Jimmy was much loved and a part of the CASA family and so many of our activities down through many years. He not only drove for CASA, he was a friend. He also wore the Santa suit for many Christmas socials and there are many photos of people receiving their Christmas gift from Santa. His lovely Scottish accent and easy manner greeted us each time we met. Rest in peace Jimmy. We will always remember you with fondness. Thank you for all the miles of driving, your dependability and care. We will miss you.

Saddened to hear of Jimmy’s passing. We were very lucky here in Portrane to have Jimmy’s bus company ‘to do the school run’ back in the day when public buses and private cars were scarce. Indeed the children of the 70’s and 80’s gained their swimming skills in Gormanston, thanks to the weekly Saturday coach trip. Professional, dependable, efficient but most importantly the safety of children in his and his drivers’ care are gratefully remembered, as are all the unspoken kindnesses to many. Sincere sympathies to all of the family. May you rest peacefully Jimmy.

Sincere condolences to Veronica, Paula, Verona, Danny and the extended Campbell family on the sad passing of Jimmy. I first met Jimmy 44 years ago and always found him to be very friendly and easy to get on with. He was a good and fair-minded employer. A really hard worker also, because as well as the driving, he often worked all hours of the night and early morning, helping his mechanic with major jobs such as replacing an engine, gearbox and such like. Jimmy's sound advice to me as a young coach driver remains as wise and relevant today, as it was all those many years ago : "Ger, take your time, that's all I'm asking you."
