I was so sorry to hear of Jimmy’s passing and offer condolences to all those who knew and loved him.
A kinder and more gentle soul, you would have to travel a long way to find.
He was a permanent fixture, every Sunday evening, in our house when I was growing up, with a routine of tea and then a trip to the Shamrock club in Welwyn Garden City.
Through work, I recently met a woman who must have been about 70 and the conversation got around to schools. It turned out she was a pupil of Jimmy’s at St Thomas of Canterbury in Puckeridge, and he was her favourite teacher. Unfortunately I never got to pass on her hello and thank you.
Listening to my dad and Jimmy ‘debating’ sport, religion or politics late into the evening was great entertainment and a good education.
He was a gifted scholar, an intelligent and humble man, and as has already been written by Cousin Jude, his research and cataloguing of the family history is a remarkable body of work and will be studied and enjoyed by generations to come.
That will be his legacy.

My sincere condolences to the Gleeson Family on the passing of Jimmy we both shared something in common my aunt, Nora Murphy nee O’Donoghue in Ware in Hertfordshire whom he visited while he worked in England and with whom I stayed while during my brief time in London. The scriptures remind us in John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. From a secular yet religious perspective Michel Quoist a French Priest, Theologian and author reminds us. “If we knew how to listen to God, we would hear him speaking to us. For God does speak. He speaks in his Gospels. He also speaks through life — that new gospel to which we ourselves add a page each day” And no doubt Tim added many pages to that new Gospel in all his years of teaching in England and in his life back in Kerry after.
