The Guinanes lived on Sheelin Road which backed on to our place on Rossroe Avenue.Fond memories of simpler times in Caherdavin when good neighbours we plentiful and times were better.

Jimmy impressed me as the man who would go on forever. He had a positive attitude and a smile to disarm. I got a great kick out of running with Jimmy and the lads up in Cratloe and he philosophizing on the steepest of inclines while we struggled for breath. Long may he run.

Sincere condolences to all the Guinane Family on Mr. Guinane’s passing. The Gallagher Family had some wonderful times growing up with the Guinanes as our back gardens in Caherdavin backed into each other in the early 70’s. Jimmy was great fun to be around and I can vividly remember us being driven around to watch club hurling games in his Hillman Hunter car with his favourite music blasting out on his car stereo. Marie, you both were a teenage couple all your lives together and from our “keeping in touch” texts over the last few years it was a very difficult time for you as Jimmy became blighted by illness. But, you stuck by him through thick and thin and it was great to meet up with you and an “ always on the move Jimmy” at the market on Saturday mornings.
Only Jimmy could have made that last minute car dash from Shannon airport to Limerick, on the bad roads of the sixties, to retrieve a passport left behind so that my sister Joan could make it for her honeymoon flight with her husband Pat.
Joan, Larry and Loretto remember all of ye cheering on Jimmy and others from our St. Patrick’s club on the Limerick team winning the minor all-Ireland of 1958 in Croke Park and the Frewen Colleges Cup of 1957.
