I only heard of James passing I can only say was a shock he had so much life and inquisitiveness about the world of nature especially in the rock pools and coves of ballinskelligs where our children played with him and enjoyed nights with Richard and Alison in their warm welcoming home , a deep love of history he had much to offer the world but he definitely lit it brightly with his presence, it is an understatement to say he had much yet to give and will be sadly missed by those whose path he crossed

Richard, I’m so very sorry to hear of the sudden loss of James.

I only met him once, but his warmth and sense of fun really stayed with me, and it was easy to see why he was so popular and so deeply loved. My heart goes out to you,to Allison,to Anna and Fergus, to his grandparents,and to Nicky and Susan. Please know you are all very much in my thoughts and prayers at this incredibly sad time, and I’m sending you all my warmest wishes for comfort and strength in the days ahead.

I have known James since my time in UCD and we have both now become Solicitors and I am in total shock over his passing. I can’t imagine what you as a family are going through and all I can say is that you raised an amazing son who I often had wonderful interactions with. I’m sorry I missed the service as I would have liked to have given him a proper send off and goodbye. All I can say is I will always remember him in my thoughts and prayers.

I was shocked to hear the news of James belatedly. I only knew James since Covid times via mutual friends and since crossed paths frequently always enjoying the pleasure of his company and gregarious personality. He was a gent of a man always with a beaming smile and will be sorely missed. RIP.

James loved to laugh; could make anyone laugh; and had the kind of riotous laugh that made others at home. He was my first and best friend at Scarborough College and made me feel welcome and one of the boys even when he had so many friends already and didn’t have to. He was fiercely loyal; stuck to his morals, could argue with anyone but equally able to be self-deprecating and laugh at himself. This is why he was friends with everyone. Nicky, Richard, Allison, Fergus and Anna, when James stayed at our home for the first time, I sent a text to Nicky afterwards and wrote “James is one of nicest people we have met, he is kind, intelligent, funny, sociable and so genuine !! We love him”.

I was very sad to hear of James’ sudden passing. I worked with James very briefly in Sheehans and his personality and character left a lasting impression on me. My deepest condolences to all of James’ loved ones and friends at this difficult time.
