I first met James 43 years ago when he and Sarah were on a journey to Dublin to bring a donated mattress to a family in the valley. It was typical of the kindness that I was to see in them ever since. They generously picked me up as a hitchhiker and we began a conversation covering a wide range of topics from the troubles in the north to the environment, politics, and self-sufficiency. It was a conversation that was never to end and was extended every time we met…

Throughout his life James had an insatiable curiosity over a wide of interests and the ability to engage and inspire people from many different backgrounds. He was an extraordinary character that I had the privilege of getting to know. My life, and the lives of many others, is better for having known him…

I offer my sincere condolences to Sarah, Karin, Kate, Amy and all those who came to know and love James.
So sad to hear James has passed. He was a clever, funny man with a big heart, I had some great times with him, I will never forget his kindness.
Sarah, Karin, Kate and Amy, you have my deepest and sincere empathy for the passing of James. My thoughts are with you. All my love.
Deepest sympathy to Sarah, Karin, Kate and Amy at the passing of their beloved James. James was such a kind, lovely man who had a smile on his face and his love of animals on the farm in Glencree was obvious for anyone to see. I spent some very happy times in Glencree and getting to know James and Sarah and their family was a very special time in my life. I often think about Glencree and those fun happy days. Rest in peace James

James was a gentle soul with a great intellect and delightful wit. He was generous in his gifts of conversation and hospitality. I recall how diligently he worked his land, yet gave you his cheerful attention at a moment’s notice. James and his lovely bride Sarah built their house in those gorgeous Wicklow mountains one room at a time, creating a warm and cosy home for their daughters. Visitors to the Glencree Centre from around the world were often invited to sit before their living room fire where a wide array of topics were discussed. May the Lord bless and comfort the McLoughlin family, as well as all who feel the loss of his passing.
Our deepest sympathy to Sarah & family. James was a true gentleman. He listened with care and consideration to everyone's story and had a smile that lit up the room. Added to that he himself was a font of knowledge.

Dearest Sarah, Karin, Kate, Amy and families. Heartfelt sympathies from your Australian cousins on the passing of James. My dad, Patrick Kennedy, has many happy childhood memories of time spent in Dublin with his McLoughlin and Cannon cousins, and of the love they received from their beautiful mothers - Lila, Maisie and Kathleen.
