James O'Sullivan

I have only now become aware that James had passed away. He was part of the very successful Belvedere College Soccer team that won the Leinster Schools Senior Cup and Leinster Schools Senior League in 1996. James although two years younger than most of the players at that time contributed in a big way to what was an unique occurrence i.e. the first ever Schools Soccer Trophies for Belvedere College. James as I remember was a quiet, pleasant young man who was a valuable member of the squad. My condolences to his widow, children and all the other members of his family.

We've known James for many years through our son, Conor. James and Conor have been best friends since primary school, so James has always been part of our family. We were aware of his path through life - in school, college and then work, and we were so pleased for him that he was getting on so well. We also cheered him on (silently) from the side line as we watched him progress from initial friendship through tentative wooing and finally to love, and marriage, to his dear wife, Eileen. Eileen and James seemed a perfect fit, and his obvious happiness in his last years is a huge testament to her positive effect on his life.

James was one of the good guys: gentle, kind, intelligent, witty, great to have a conversation with and very funny (we still recall with amusement his hilarious best man's speech at Conor and Hilary's wedding). And he obviously was a doting and devoted father to Billy and George. We'll miss you James; you're a big loss to everyone who knew you. And most of all, of course, to Eileen, Billy and George, your beautiful family, who now stand as a wonderful and fitting legacy of a special man.

I don’t know if you remember me but I did your wedding video a few years back.
I was deeply affected on hearing James had passed and I wanted to extend my deepest condolences for you and your family.

Was so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of James. My thoughts are with his wife Eileen and 2 little boys, to his sisters, Joanna and Julie, and to the extended family and friends. I would have regarded James as my best friend growing up. We went to school together, we played football every day on the road together and along with a great group of friends we shared some brilliant memories. James was a great friend to us all. Xx

My condolences to the o Sullivan family. I knew James from 7 yrs old in Birchview . He had a big smile & a big heart back then too . I've fond memories of racing our bikes along the road , playing football games of 7up or in his house playing on his comodore 64. It was an absolute pleasure to grow up with him. I met James in DCU and over the years we all had so much fun together. From the DCU bar to nights out in town to weekends away in Lahinch. I always loved seeing James face when we would go into meet the lads in town. That kilowatt smile would immediately welcome you and that was always quickly followed by a big bear hug. James was always an absolute gent. Great craic but also really good for the proper chats. I admire so much what a good friend, father and husband he turned out to be and loved by so many people. He was sincere and kind. He was so loved by us college girls and will never be far from our thoughts. A wonderful bright light. Dear Eileen, Billy and George. I sat in front of James for 2 years in school and remember getting in trouble with the teachers for laughing at his Ace Ventura impressions. I knew him as the same part of a wide group of friends, all Belvo lads. He was so often smiling and such a nice man to speak with on the occasions we hung out during our 20s and 30s, including some memorable friends trips away to rugby and football matches.
Not surprised to learn what a devoted husband and father he was. His memory will live on with all of us of course. Thinking of you all at this tragic time.

It is always hard when the good ones are taken from us early - similar to when James lost his mum Rita. I celebrate his life and get such comfort hearing how happy he has been over the last few years. James will be forever remembered as he touched so many with his kind, gentle and easy going nature. He was a close friend who I spent many formative years with in school and home life. He always stuck up for what was right and deeply valued friendship. James was the centre of our group. He loved his music and I’ve such vivid memories of him educating me about The Flaming Lips while sitting me in front of his new ghetto blaster at full volume. Rest in peace buddy. Rita will look after you once more. I’m certain your boys will know what a great person you are and how this world is less bright without you.

I loved james sharp wit, unshakable belief in his own forensically formed opinions and that cheeky smile.
He wore his intelligence like a cloak, revealing it at the most opportune time for maximum effect.
James achieved much in a life too short, scaling his own Everest to find his happy place.
I hope everyone who is hurting now can in the weeks and months ahead take great comfort and solice that they played a significant part in helping james reach that elusive summit, using all the happy memories with James as fuel to continue the climb.
