It's with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Comrade James (Jimmy) Power, A valued Workers Party member who's dedication to social justice made him a pillar of the Mayfield branch in Cork.

Jimmy first joined the party in the 1970's, he and his Late Brother Sean were tireless advocates for their community and the working class. Arguably the most evident demonstration of this was during the rent strike campaign where Jimmy and his family bravely fought for basic living housing conditions which resulted in them enduring harsh repercussions including eviction.

Even when faced with a mandated court order to vacate the premises, Jimmy refused, believing that justice demanded otherwise. His act of defiance and resistance motivated others to stand up for their rights then and it continues to do so today.

We are immensely proud to have called Jimmy our comrade. We salute him for his Trojan work, His courage and his tenacity in the face of adversity. He will be greatly missed.

Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Mary, his children, and his extended family. We offer our support to his family during this sad time. Jimmy's legacy will not just live on by those who have had the privilege to know him but also through his lasting contributions that inspire us in our struggle for a better world.
