I have great memories of James and all the Ryan family from when he was only a lad.

The untimely death of James has left the people of Carnew deeply shocked and saddened. He will be forever remembered for his sharp wit, good humour and his sense of fun. An encounter with James invariably ended in laughter which would just simply lift your spirits. However he also had a sharp mind and intellect which enabled him to engage in meaningful discussions on the main topical issues of the day. Sincere sympathies to his heartbroken sisters Anne, Liz and Catherine and to the extended Ryan family and also his wide circle of close and loyal friends. Carnew has lost a truly remarkable character whose absence will be noted for many years to come.

Just watched the lovely emotional Mass for James including Catherine’s moving eulogy. Hearing the final song-the gypsy rover-took me by surprise,as I fondly remember singing it with our grandad,Tim Ryan, in the kitchen in tomacork in the 1950s,and rarely heard it since.
Sorry I couldn’t attend in person. Rest in peace James.
