My deepest sympathies to the O'Toole family for your loss. I had the pleasure of dealing with Jim in a professional capacity over 20 years or so. Through the course of many conversations that extended past the matter of business at hand, I came to appreciate him as man of character and of genuine warmth and kindness. My deepest sympathies to Jim, Gavin, Natalie, Ralph, Melissa and Cormac on the passing of your Dad. I've had the great pleasure of working in 131 Rathgar Rd with Jim for the last 25 years. During this time I got to know Jim very well, most notably over long lunches on a Friday( which sometimes nearly became dinners). Jim was the epitome of a gentleman and was held in very high regard by his peers in the Life Insurance industry. He will be sadly missed.

I met James for the first time ever at Shanganagh cemetery some time ago when he was there to visit his wife’s grave.
We had a long, and for both of us, I believe, a spiritually very uplifting conversation on many aspects of life, not least of all bereavement.
We never met again, but our single meeting that day left a lasting impression on me, which to this day I hold dear.
There is a phrase I heard long ago: the comfort of strangers. When James and I greeted one another on that good day, we were no longer strangers but fellow wayfarers on the road of life who met briefly, yet meaningfully, along the way.
I extend my heartfelt sympathy to James’ family at this time of great sadness and loss.
May he rest in peace.
