A giant oak has fallen- but the family acorns will ensure his memory will live on . Jim was a breath of fresh air to the Royal when he took over the reins after 120 years of same same in our industry in 1971. His enthusiasm and encouragement for everybody under his stewardship was exemplary . The respect and affection in which he was held by all was shared with colleagues throughout the city and country . To his beloved wife and family(s) I send my deepest sympathies. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilìs.

Jim was one of life's true gentlemen. He had a wonderful sense of humour and his stories of encounters with "big-wigs" in the Royal Insurance in the U.K.were a tonic. Playing golf with Jim was always an occasion to cherish, and particularly winning a turkey in a Christmas four-ball, when to Jim's amazement and delight he sank a bunker shot on the eighteenth to win the competition by three points. RIP

Jim was an absolute gentleman and a role model within the Castle Golf Club. While walking the fairways in times past one day myself and Jim were talking about the positivity of the Castle culture. Jim described its culture as being an ‘Egalitarian’ one. He indeed lived that culture treating all within the Club with open friendship and respectfulness. It is so sad to hear of his passing. Jim was a wonderful chief executive in Royal Insurance for many years and took a huge interest in the lives of all his staff , both in a business and a personal sense- I certainly benefitted from his fairness and kindness on many occasions .

Jim how I remember our days back in Enniscorthy in 1962.I used baby sit your darling sons Kieran and Declan on occasions. (Aidan hadnt arrived at that stage) . You were a most efficient /popular Inspector and I knew ,even at that stage, that you would go on to be General Manager of Royal Insurance . I was right and you spent many years in that lofty role until your retirement.Thank you Very Much for your Kindness to me on many occasions. Eileen and your sons will.miss you very much.
