Mags I was so sorry to hear your lovely Mam has passed away. She was such a gentle soul with a beautiful smile. I really only got to know her this past year while visiting my Mam in Carechoice Trim. Sincerest condolences to Margaret and Family and to Nancy and all who mourn the death of Jane, R.I.P. Jane was a most kind and hospitable lady and I have many fond memories of visiting Jane and her late husband, Christy, in Donore in the 60s. Her father, Jack (The Herd) Dixon, was a great character and most witty and entertaining. (His grace after Jane’s hearty meal went as follows: “Thank God and God’s Mother, if I didn’t ate my fill, I’ll ate as much as another!”) Christy was a W.W.2 Merchant Navy Veteran and he often recounted to me his dreadful experiences, including suicide air attacks by Kamikaze pilots, the sea on fire with plane fuel, manning the red-hot guns- and comrades falling dead beside him. He survived the mayhem and, having played his noble part in defending the world against the evils of Hitler and Hirohito, he returned home to marry Jane and raise their lovely family in the peace and quiet of their farm on the Connaberry Boreen, Donore.
Jane is now reunited with Christy and their beloved son Pat, and with all their loved ones who have gone before. May they all rest in eternal peace.
